The BBC is to premiere a brand-new Doctor Who “sting” ident and reveal a Twitter hashtag, as part of the run-up to the sci-fi show’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, which kick off in earnest in November.
According to Metro, they will be revealed immediately before and after the first episode of the BBC’s new fantasy series, Atlantis, which itself premieres this evening, on BBC One at 8:25 p.m.
Metro adds, “The ident to be used for the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who will be revealed, as well as a Twitter hashtag, which the BBC say, viewers will ‘soon be very familiar with’.”
They will then be available to view on the official BBC Doctor Who website.
The name of the anniversary episode, The Day of the Doctor, was revealed earlier this month. It stars Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt, as various incarnations of the Doctor, and features the Daleks and Zygons.
Billie Piper, Jenna Coleman and Jemma Redgrave play the Doctors’ companions Rose Tyler, Clara Oswald and Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, respectively.
The Day of the Doctor will be shown in over 200 countries all on the same day: Saturday, 23 November 2013, which is the exact day 50 years ago that the first-ever episode, An Unearthly Child, was broadcast in the UK.
