New York - Nicholas Brooks is facing 25 years to life in prison after being convicted of strangling his girlfriend, fashion designer Sylvie Cachay to death in 2010.
Brooks, the son of Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks, was convicted of Cachay's murder in July.
Her partially clothed body was found in an overflowing bathtub on December 9, 2010, The AP reports. She was 33-years-old.
Right after her murder, Cachay's parents said breaking up with Nick may have resulted in her death.
Prosecutors say he strangled her after she attempted to end their tumultuous relationship.
Nicholas Brooks' attorney says Sylvie Cachay drowned accidentally due to a mix of alcohol and prescription drugs.
