Natalie Grant is a Grammy-nominated songstress and a five-time winner of the prestigious "Female Vocalist of the Year" Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove award.
On August 28, Grant performed "Let Freedom Ring." at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. at a ceremony that commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the historic speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "It was completely surreal," she said. "To stand in the same place and sing a song of my faith, and look out in the audience and see people of all colors standing shoulder to shoulder in unity. It was a life moment I will never forget."
She shared the stage with such dignitaries ranging from U.S. presidents, Oprah Winfrey, Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker, among others. "It was such an honor. I had so many 'pinch-me' moments, knowing they could've had anyone perform, but they asked me," she said. "It was very humbling."
Grant's performance was well-received by the Mayor of Atlanta, Kasim Reed, as well as Don Melon from CNN. "I was grateful to represent gospel music and to see that so many people responded so positively," she added.
She is extremely proud when her songs have helped other people at a time of need. "Every time I hear how a song of mine has been an anchor for someone in the most difficult moments of their life. That's why I make music, and when I hear those stories, I feel successful," she said.
On her new album "Hurricane," Grant remarked, "This record is full of music that is positive and bright, both musically and lyrically, which is almost the antitheses to how I have felt for the last few years, but it is the result of hope and faith. Even when everything seems dark, my faith keeps the light on. I feel these songs help me to tell that truth in a fresh way."
Aside from gospel music queen Sandi Patty, who is a huge fan of hers, Grant listed CeCe Winans as her dream duet choice in music, whom she dubs as her "vocal hero."
For Natalie Grant, the word success is defined as living "a life that speaks about and testifies to True Love, not with words but through how I live."
