Doctor Who – Boobies in the TARDIS is,
according to Hotsy Totsy, “a brand-new burlesque tribute to the beloved BBC series,
Doctor Who ”, the world’s longest-running science-fiction television drama.
Presented by Joe the Shark and Cherry Pitz, the people responsible for the Hotsy Totsy Burlesque at The Home For Wayward Girls and Fallen Women!
In tonight’s episode, the Doctor arrives at the Home for Wayward Girls and Fallen Women, a place that the TARDIS has visited before …
As the synopsis says, “The Doctor just can’t seem to figure out why the TARDIS keeps bringing him back. We say it just wants the Doctor to have a good time watching burlesque!”
As reported by Broadway World,
Doctor Who – Boobies in the TARDIS follows in “the footsteps of
Hotsy Totsy Burlesque’s successful Doctor Who,
Mad Men,
Game of Thrones and
Star Wars ‘1978 Holiday Special’ tribute shows” and sees Brad Lawrence as the Doctor and Cherry Pitz as his companion.
Other members of the cast include, Kinky Demure, Ivory Fox, Cubby Hall, Galatea the living statue, Matt Knife (
Homo Erectus), Delirium Tremens and Teddy Turnaround.
Previously, several episodes of
Doctor Who – the TV series – have been set in New York; notably,
Daleks in Manhattan /
Evolution of the Daleks (2007) and
The Angels Take Manhattan (2012). Meanwhile, New New York featured in the
New Earth (2006) and
Gridlock (2007).
Broadway World describes Hotsy Totsy Burlesque as “New York’s only episodic, monthly burlesque show featuring a different script each month and a rotating cast […] a high camp soap opera featuring some of the best burlesque talent New York has to offer.”
In the coming months, a number of other TV and film tribute shows will be staged: October 15 sees
Munsters/Addams Family Wedding; November 19,
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy; and, rounding off 2013,
The 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special Tribute Special Strikes Back on December 17.
But first,
Doctor Who – Boobies in the TARDIS begins tonight, at 8 p.m. at the
R-Bar, 218 Bowery (between Prince and Spring), Lower East Side, New York City, NY.
