By Larry Seely     Sep 15, 2013 in Sports
Chicago - Jay Cutler kept his poise late in the fourth quarter and helped lead his Chicago Bears past the Minnesota Vikings with a late touchdown pass to Martellus Bennett and a big 31-30 victory.
Cutler overcame a sluggish second half and two interceptions with the last drive. The veteran quarterback completed 28 of 39 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns as Chicago moved to 2-0 for the NFL season.
Running back Matt Forte had a big game rushing for 161 total yards, including eleven receptions out of the backfield. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall hauled in seven passes for 113 yards and a score, but it was Bennett and his two scores that made the difference on the day.
Minnesota got off to a quick start when rookie Cordarrelle Patterson returned the opening kick off 105 yards for a score. The Vikings came from behind four times to tie the score or take the lead, but the defense couldn't hold the lead in the final three minutes and they are now 0-2 on the year.
Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder finished the game completing 16 of 30 for 227 yards and a score. All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson added 100 yards rushing on Sunday, but three turnovers and just six of 15 conversions on third down helped lead to the defeat.
