article imageNFL Scores: Falcons hold off Rams 31-24

By Larry Seely     Sep 15, 2013 in Sports
Atlanta - Atlanta scored the first three touchdowns in their NFL game on Sunday against the Rams, but needed a late first down to run out the clock and hold on to a 31-24 victory at home.
Quarterback Matt Ryan was on fire in the first half, throwing for tow touchdowns in the first quarter and leading the Falcons to a 24-3 half time lead. Ryan finished the game completing 33 of 43 passes for 374 yards and those two scores.
The big play in the first half was Falcons linebacker Osi Umenyiora picked off a tipped pass and returned it 68 yards for a score to give Atlanta a 21-0 lead.
St Louis quarterback Sam Bradford led a second half charge with three touchdown passes. Bradford completed 32 of 55 throws for 352 yards, the second most in his NFL career, but the defense couldn't get him the ball back in the final two minutes and the Rams dropped to 1-1.
Atlanta let a lead slip in their opening game loss to New Orleans, but Ryan was terrific when the team needed him most and the Falcons moved to 1-1 on the year. Atlanta will head South next week and take on the Miami Dolphins, while the Rams head to Dallas to face the Cowboys.
