The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has already announced the first award recipient for 2014's Golden Globes in January – Woody Allen.
Reuters reported on Friday September 13th Allen, 77, will receive the Cecil B. DeMille award for what he has done for cinema. The director and writer was chosen as this year's recipient by the board of the directors of the HFPA. It's their Golden Globes that each year honor the best in film and television.
In a statement, HFPA President Theo Kingma said:
“There is no one more worthy of this award than Woody Allen. His contributions to film making have been phenomenal and he is truly an international treasure.”
According to Deadline, Allen has had an extensive career in the film industry spanning more than 45 films. His acclaimed work includes “Annie Hall,” “Manhattan,” and the “The Purple Rose of Cairo.” In recent years he has also box office success with “Match Point,” Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” and “Midnight in Paris.” For the later film, starring Owen Wilson, he also won the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay – Motion Picture along with the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. His most current film, “Blue Jasmine,” is in theaters now.
The award, whose previous recipients include Morgan Freeman, Jodie Foster, and Robert De Niro, is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the world of entertainment. DeMille, according to Reuters, was a very influential Hollywood director who had a successful career throughout both the silent and sound eras.
Deadline reports that the 71st Annual Golden Globes will take place on Sunday, January 12th, 2014. It will be broadcast live from on NBC at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
