Sheriff Judd of Polk County said
that Rebecca Anne Sedgwick ended her life by jumping to her death at an old cement production facility in Lakeland, Florida. Judd said she was “absolutely terrorized” by the girls on social media sites.
The Lakeland Ledger
that some of the messages she received included
“Why are you still alive?”
“Go kill yourself,”
An investigation of her previous search results included queries about how many Advil it took to overdose, and she had recently changed her name on a free social messaging application to “That Dead Girl.” They also found photos of Sedgwick with her head resting on a railroad track.
Her bullies may be charged
under Florida’s felony cyber-stalking law, if investigators can find enough evidence to pursue the charges. The parents of the suspects are cooperating fully in the investigation and the girls have had their laptops and cell phones confiscated.
The bullying appears to have started at Crystal Lake Middle School in 2012 over a boyfriend.
