Prince William will soon be serving a variety of charities. He will also focus more of his time on royal duties. The new emphasis in his life will come as he leaves the air force.
Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, will leave the British armed forces after seven-and-a-half years to focus on royal duties and charity work, according to CNN. Kensington Palace made the announcement Thursday.
Prince William was known as Flight Lieutenant Wales to his Royal Air Force comrades. He was a pilot in the Royal Air Force and Rescue Force and had been stationed at a at a search-and-rescue base on Anglesey, a remote Welsh Island since 2010. He lived there with Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.
Prince William will focus on royal duties. He is also considering involvement with a number of charities. Part of his focus will be on charities that deal with veterans, children and service members. He will also become president of United for Wildlife, a group that will focus on fighting the illegal wildlife trade.
The prince, 31, is second in line to the royal throne. He became a father for the first time in July. His wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to Prince George, the couple's first child. The couple is set to move into their officially renovated at Kensington Palace in the near future, according to an article by Yahoo.
A spokesman for Prince William said he will take a tour in 2014. He added that the birth of Prince George was not a factor in Prince William's leaving the military.
Prince William conducted 158 operations and helped 149 people across Wales, according to Wing Commander Mark "Sparky" Dunlop, his squadron commander. He said the flights were conducted in a "range of weather conditions" and added that he was "very impressed with his flying ability." He said he would be happy to fly again with the prince.
According to Business Insider, the duties Prince William will be involved in are both at home and overseas.
