Take a girl; add a trending infamous subject matter, throw in a camera and some flammable disaster, and you get hoax gone viral.
In a recent segment on his show, late night T.V. Host Jimmy Kimmel revealed that he was behind the infamous “Worst Twerk Fail Ever—Girl Catches Fire” video. According Kimmel, the video was created and posted two months ago. It was uploaded onto Youtube without being publicized. Though the creator of the video remained silent on Twitter and Facebook and no news agencies were contacted, the 37 seconds long clip was picked up by numerous media outlets (including Digital Journal) and social media. It gained nine million views within a week. Currently, the original video has a view count of 11,614,243 on YouTube.
Kimmel also revealed that Caitlin Heller is not the real name of the girl in the video. She is a stunt actor who goes by the name: Daphne Avalon. Many skeptic people who saw the original video speculated that it was not authentic because of the its abrupt ending. Kimmel revealed the full video on his show. It ended with him coming through the door and saving the day with a fire extinguisher.
