The Queen of Pop, Kylie Minogue, is to be a coach on the forthcoming third season of The Voice UK, the BBC has announced.
She will join Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am, when the series returns to television in January of 2014. She replaces former coach Jessie J, who, after two seasons, has already confirmed that she won't be returning to the show.
Minogue, 45, said she was pleased to be joining The Voice. "I'm very excited," she told BBC News. "I love the concept of the show and have been an avid viewer of both series."
Where, once, her younger sister, Dannii Minogue, by becoming a singer, followed in Kylie's footsteps, the tables are now turned: Dannii has already had stints of being a judge on both the UK and Australian versions of The X Factor.
Phenomenally successful as a singer, Kylie has sold more than 68 million records worldwide. Her singles include "Locomotion", "I Should Be So Lucky", "Confide In Me" and "Can't Get You Out of My Head".
Prior to her musical success, she was best known for playing Charlene Robinson in the Australian soap, Neighbours, and, in 2007, she was cast as Astrid Peth, companion to the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) in the BBC science-fiction drama series, Doctor Who.
The UK version of the world-popular reality singing-contest format began in 2012. Although the series performed well in its first season, the second, in 2013, suffered in the ratings. However, by the final, many viewers had returned to the show.
In July, talking about her decision to leave, Jessie J tweeted, "I've absolutely loved my time on The Voice, and I hope everyone saw and knows how passionately I felt about the show."
Of Kylie joining the series, will.i.am said, "While I will miss Danny and Jessie, I'm excited to be returning for season three and to work with Kylie and Tom. Together, we will mix it up and bring new energy and ideas to the show."
The fourth coach, Danny O'Donoghue, of the Script, has also decided not to return for a third series. His replacement, the BBC says, is still being sought.
