Farmingville - On September 7, country duo Thompson Square played at the Pennysaver Amphitheater in Farmingville, New York as part of “Vets Rock,” which was presented by “My Country 96.1 FM.”
The husband and wife duo (comprised of Keifer and Shawna Thompson) shared the stage with such country acts as Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, Joel Crouse, as well as Love and Theft.
Thompson Square showed their Long Island fans how to have a good time on the upbeat “I Got You.”
Shawna Thompson delivered a delicate rendition of their ballad “Glass,” while Keifer backed her on acoustic guitar. Her gorgeous vocals on this tune were reminiscent to those of Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland, which ought to be perceived as a major compliment.
They had their audience clapping along with them on their newest radio single “Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About.”
“That’s a brand new one everybody,” Keifer said. “Thank you so much for calling and requesting that song,” he added.
Shawna also sang a few verses of Rihanna and Eminem’s duet “Love The Way You Lie,” showcasing her incredible range, and then they immediately broke into their hit single “If I Didn’t Have You,” where Keifer did a solid job on harmonies and on electric guitar.
“Thank you for making that a No. 1 record for us everybody,” Keifer shared.
Prior to singing their breakthrough hit, Keifer noted that he had a question for the Long Island audience.
“That’s when you are supposed to say ‘what,’” he told the crowd, and continued with “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” which began as a sing-along.
“Oh! You sound good,” he complimented the audience, which rewarded them with a standing ovation. “Thank you guys for being so good to us. We appreciate it. God bless you.”
The Verdict
Overall, Thompson Square put on a fantastic concert in New York City, and they proved to be at the top of their game. Shawna’s powerful vocals can challenge those of any contemporary female vocalist in the genre and Keifer commands the guitar like no other. Together the country couple produce superb harmonies that are infectious and captivating.
