Teenager shot dead as prank goes horribly wrong

Denver - Teenage pranksters often bite off more than they can chew but Premila Lal, 18, definitely got more than she bargained for when she leaped out of a closet to make her friend jump -- she was shot dead.
Police are investigating the shooting dead of Premila Lal, a Niwot High School track star. 21-year-old Nerrek Daniel Galley, of Longmont, Colorado, a friend of Lal, is accused of killing her during a prank which went horribly wrong.
Galley and Lal were good friends and police have confirmed that they are treating the murder as “unintended and extremely tragic.” Lal hid in a closet and leaped out but instead of simply startling Galley he allegedly thought she was an intruder and shot her dead.
According to CBS local Denver "The shooting happened in the 2500 block of Cambridge Drive at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday."
Lal did not die instantly. She was quickly taken to hospital after Galley, her brother, 15, and cousin, 12, had carried her to the car, reports Gawker.
A neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, reportedly called the police. She claims that she heard screaming and shouting. Police were alerted that a shooting victim had been brought to Longmont United Hospital and attended the scene.
Later they arrested Nerreck Galley but on charges unrelated to the shooting of Lal; charges which according to Gawker "“include suspected child abuse, reckless endangerment, and permitting a juvenile to have a firearm."
The Boulder County District Attorney's office is working with police investigating Miss Lal's death. They will decide whether Galley is be charged in relation to Lal's death.
Police Commander Jeff Satur said that Lal was declared dead around 9pm, just one hour after the shooting.
The Daily Mirror reports Praveen Lal, the victim's heartbroken father said: "'My life ended so suddenly and I think it’s going to take a few more days for us to really, you know, comprehend she’s gone."
