One day waiting period proposed for Washington DC tattoos

By Owen Weldon     Sep 8, 2013 in World
Getting tattoos and body piercings on impulse may become less impulsive if Washington DC health regulators get their way.
According to Washington Post, a mandatory 24-hour waiting period is one of the provisions included in a 66-page package of regulations (draft version) governing the "body art" industry, which was released on Friday by the city's Health Department.
According to Atlanta Journal Constitution, a Health Department spokeswoman said that the idea will prevent people from making decision they could end up regretting later on, especially if they are under the influence of substances.
According to Business Standard, if the law does become implemented, then DC would be one of the few places in the United States that would have a required waiting period on tattoos and piercings.
The proposal would also have age restrictions. Under the proposal anyone under the age of 18 would not be able to get a tattoo, and operators and artists would need to be licensed.
