article imageSEC Football Scores: Murray leads Georgia past South Carolina

By Larry Seely     Sep 7, 2013 in Sports
Athens - Georgia entered the second week of the 2013 college football season needing a win after the loss to Clemson last Saturday and senior quarterback Aaron Murray led the charge as the Bulldogs defeated the sixth ranked South Carolina Gamecocks 41-30.
This game was supposed to match the tough South Carolina defense against the high powered offense of Georgia, but the opening SEC football game for both schools began like an old fashion shootout as both teams moved up and down the field.
Murray completed 17 of 23 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns, but he wasn't the only weapon on the field for the Bulldogs as sophomore running back Todd Gurley rushed for 132 yards and a score as the Georgia offense racked up 535 yards in total offense.
South Carolina had some fire power of their own as Conner Shaw passed for 229 yards and two touchdowns and added another 66 yards on the ground. Running back Mike Davis had another outstanding effort with 151 yards and a score with just 16 carries in only his second start in college football.
Georgia did play better defense in the second half, limiting the Gamecocks to just six points, but Murray used the pass and run to control the clock in the fourth quarter to keep the ball away from South Carolina and earn the big win.
