article imageDrunken wasps pose threat to people in UK

By Timothy Whitt     Sep 7, 2013 in Odd News
The British Red Cross warned that billions of "unemployed" wasps who have fulfilled their duties to their queen are now raising havoc in England.
The wasps who have fully supplied their queen with nectar have nothing better to do but hang out and drink fermenting fruit. It also appears the wasps are not happy drunks either.
Wasps become more aggressive as the temperature cools and they get older. And now it appears drunk wasps like stinging with more frequency.
According to Joe Mulligan, head of first aid at the British Red Cross, “It’s hilarious that, now worker wasps have finished their life's work, all they are doing now is feasting on fermented fruit and getting ‘drunk,’"
The danger for humans is they may be stung while walking in the park, sitting at a barbecue or even just sun bathing in the back yard.
Mulligan added,If stung, "don't try to get it out using tweezers, as some stingers contain sacs of poison, and you could accidentally inject it into your skin this way." Instead use a credit card to scrape across the skin in order to dislodge the stinger."
