A 31-year-old woman was arrested and charged after it was alleged she used her pit bull to attack a person she was arguing with.
Edmonton police responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 5. When they reached the area, officers observed a woman who had minor injuries allegedly resulting from an attack by a pit bull.
According to Leila Daoud, a spokeswoman for the Edmonton Police Service, the accused had been involved in a verbal argument with three men and a woman. As the argument progressed, the 31-year-old is alleged to have slackened the leash of her pit bull, eventually allowing the dog to reach the woman she was arguing with.
Courtney Vye, faces one count of assault with a weapon.
Police say they interviewed several witnesses and accounts from those witnesses supports the charge of assault with a weapon.
Under section 2 of the Criminal Code, the definition of "weapon" includes anything intended to be used as a weapon in order to kill, injure, threaten or intimidate another person.
The pit bill was seized by animal control officers.
