Country duo Steel Magnolia is comprised of Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones. They won the second season of the CMT (Country Music Television) reality singing competition “Can You Duet,” which landed them a record deal with Big Machine Records.
They have been nominated for every country duo or group award possible, which includes nods from the Academy of Country Music (ACM), Country Music Association (CMA), the CMT Music Awards, the Teen Choice Awards, as well as the American Country Awards. “It was an honor and a blessing to be up for all of these awards,” Meghan said.
Their breakthrough single, “Keep on Lovin’ You,” reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. “That felt like winning a million bucks,” Joshua said.
They are playing shows through the end of the year, and one of their concerts will be at New York City’s Highline Ballroom on September 13. “We are excited since we haven’t played New York City in a while,” Meghan said. “We are really looking forward to it and it’s going to be fun.”
They are the stars of a new reality show that will air next year on a major television network. “We started filming this week. This show is on a major network and it’s going to be really cool. It’s about the lives of up-and-coming artists and insiders in the industry. We are really excited about it,” Meghan.
Steel Magnolia is recording a new EP in juxtaposition to their reality series. “We are in the studio and we are actually finalizing the vocal tracks right now,” Joshua stated. “It’s just a matter of getting it finished.”
Meghan added, “We are doing everything independent at the moment and this EP that we are making is for the fans and we want to put it out in conjunction with the TV show. Honestly, we are both working on solo projects as well.”
On the origin of the duo’s name, Meghan shared, “We were just throwing out names and that one stuck, since I grew up in Louisiana. Joshua liked it and we went with it.”
“We thought we could change it later but once we got on our first reality show, ‘Can You Duet,’ the name stuck with us,” Joshua said.
“We were just desperate I guess,” Meghan added with a laugh.
Aside from all of the award nominations that they have gathered in their career, their proudest professional accomplishment was playing on the hallowed Grand Ole Opry stage. “We were regulars on the Grand Ole Opry for a while and that was really cool since it is every country singer’s dream to play there,” Meghan said. “I get nervous every time that I am there.”
