Christian music recording artist Matthew West has recently made history with his latest sophomore single “Hello, My Name Is.”
It is a track from his Grammy-nominated album “Into The Light,” and its deluxe edition, which combines a CD and DVD, was released on August 13, via his record label, Sparrow Records. It is the follow-up to his moving lead single “Forgiveness.”
“Hello, My Name Is” has officially broken the record for the most weeks at No. 1, where he has stayed at the top spot for 16 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs charts.
This is a new personal best for West since his previous longest-running single was “The Motions” which held the top spot for 14 weeks at those charts back in 2008.
West remarked in a press statement, “I am absolutely blown away by this run that 'Hello' has had.”
He added, “Many thanks to all the radio stations across the country for letting the song and its message reach the hearts of listeners. I've always seen 'Hello, My Name Is' as a three minute reminder that we are not our failures. We are not even our successes. Of all the names that try to define us, the only title that truly matters is the one given to us by our Creator; children of God. We are children of the one true King.”
In my recent phone interview with West, he listed “Hello, My Name Is” as his personal favorite song from his newest CD; furthermore, he is “going to be focusing on a new record,” but in the meantime he will be “focusing his efforts on a tour,” and he hopes “to release one more radio single from this album.”
West is expected to embark on his “Into the Light” tour this fall, where he will visit over 30 cities across the United States. He will be joined by such musical acts as Sidewalk Prophets and Jason Castro from season seven of American Idol.
