The good news for American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillips keeps on coming. His single “Gone, Gone, Gone” sits at No. 1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts, for the week ending September 7.
It was a steady climb, reaching the top spot while charting for 18 weeks.
This marks his second consecutive No. 1 single on adult contemporary radio, since his breakthrough single and Idol coronation song “Home” topped those charts for an astonishing 12 weeks, which is the most for any adult contemporary artist this year.
Most recently, on August 28, the Idol winner opened for Grammy-winning superstar John Mayer as part of his “Born and Raised” tour at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, in Wantagh, New York.
According to an article on Billboard’s official website, aside from Phillips, other artists that have accomplished this milestone of having back-to-back No. 1 adult contemporary singles (since these charts launched back in 1961) include Josh Groban, Aaron Neville, Peter Cetera, Lionel Richie, Neil Sedaka, Barry Manilow, Gilbert O’ Sullivan, and the late Dean Martin.
