Fifty couples engaged to be married, who are also Doctor Who fans, are to tie the knot at a Time Lord wedding in November, it has emerged.
According to the Radio Times, a British events company, Special Events Group, are looking for 100 love-struck Whovians who are willing to tie the knot to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the BBC’s science-fiction drama series.
The once-in-a-lifetime celebration, which will be held at London’s Bloomsbury Ballroom, has already attracted a lot of interest, the organisation’s Selina Price says.
Speaking to Radio Times, Price confirmed, “We’ve been inundated from all over the world. We had responses yesterday from Israel and Mexico, but the most is from America. They send photographs of themselves in costume, stories, tales of how long they’ve been fans.”
Anyone wanting to be considered will need £2000, and proof of their enduring love – not just for each other but for Doctor Who, too.
According to the report in Radio Times, prizes will be awarded for the best costumed newlyweds, and, “The 50 couples will say their Doctor Who-themed vows at the same time.” “Till regeneration do us part,” RT suggests.
Previously, in 2012, Special Events Group organised the UK’s first-ever Klingon wedding ceremony, for which the celebrant was required to learn chunks of alien Klingon language to recite the vows to those getting married.
The deadline for applicants for the Time Lord wedding is 1 October.
