article imageCFL Scores: Roughriders defeats Winnipeg 48-25

By Larry Seely     Sep 1, 2013 in Sports
Regina - Saskatchewan came out on Sunday a little sluggish, but the Roughriders rebounded from a slow start and crushed Winnipeg 48-25 in CFL action.
After the Blue Bombers tackled Kory Sheets in the end zone for a 2-0 lead and played inspired football for the rest of the first half, leading 18-14 at the midway point, Saskatchewan quarterback Darian Durant took things into his own hands and led a second half stampede.
Durant finished the game completing 24 of 35 passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns. The veteran signal caller also added 34 yards on the ground as the Roughriders outscores the Blue Bombers 34-7 in the second half.
Winnipeg came into the game without their top two quarterbacks and Justin Goltz struggled in the passing game as he completed 18 of 29 for 182 yards, but two interceptions helped lead to the defeat. Goltz did supply some help on the ground as he rushed for 73 yards and two scores, but it wasn't enough as mistakes and inexperience hurt the Blue Bombers chances of an upset.
Saskatchewan improved to 8-1 before a sold out crowd of 44,910 and will play Winnipeg again next week. The Roughriders have the best record in the CFL and lead the West Division by four points over Calgary, who takes the field on Monday against Edmonton.
