article imageOp-Ed: The return of the Conspiridiots

By Alexander Baron     Sep 2, 2013 in World
Paris - Diana Princess of Wales died in tragic circumstances 16 years ago last week. The British police are said currently to be assessing "new information" about her death.
Return of the Conspiridiots? Return to front page non-news is probably a better phrase, because the truth is they never went away. Three targets for conspiracy cranks are currently back in the news: the death of Diana; 9/11 truth (the fictional version); and that hardiest of perennials, the Kennedy Assassination.
The Metropolitan Police are currently said to be assessing "new information" about the circumstances of Diana's death, which could mean anything. These new claims - whatever they are - have generated a certain amount of interest, but two people who have shown no interest at all are Messrs William and Harry Windsor, better known as Prince William and Prince Harry. They were teenagers when their mother died, so obviously they both have many fond memories of her. If there were any real suggestion that she had been murdered, they could have been expected to show some interest, which would have manifested somehow, even though typically royals maintain a dignified silence about most matters. Diana's death at such a young age caused a massive outpouring of grief, and this sort of sick exploitation can cause only more grief to her family, especially to her sons. Diana should be left to rest in peace.
This November sees the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Assassination. If the name James Leavelle means nothing to you, that's him in the light suit and big hat handcuffed to Lee Harvey Oswald seconds before Jack Ruby shoots the assassin. Oswald dies shortly, and an industry is born. Leavelle is now 93 years old, in good health, and unlike most of the much younger conspiracy cranks, he still has all his faculties. Recently, he said he still receives around three letters a week from people who are interested in the tragic events of November 22, 1963 and the following days. What does he think about Oswald?
“Had we gone to trial, based on the evidence, we would have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Oswald was the single gunman”. Here is an article written two years ago. Alas, there will never be any convincing some people.

Hothead Jack Ruby pulls a gun as Lee Harvey Oswald is being transferred to the county jail from the basement of Dallas Police Department. Although Ruby kills Oswald, this act gives birth to the conspiracy industry that thrives to this very day.

Up until 12 years ago, the Kennedy Assassination was the single most thoroughly researched and documented incident in the history of mankind barring none. Then those three days that resulted in three murders were eclipsed by a crime of such staggering audacity, scope, proportions and sheer evil that even today it is difficult for rational minds to grasp. This video of the second plane crashing into the towers is truly spectacular; don't let that blind you to the fact that what you are witnessing in those few seconds is an act of calculated mass murder.
What was also and remains difficult for many people to grasp is the fact that the atrocities of 9/11 were carried out by 19 men armed with boxcutters, minimal assistance from others, and relatively modest funding. This, ignorance, and many other things - including outright mischievousness - has led to 9/11 conspiracism surpassing that of even the Kennedy Assassination.
The latest 9/11 truth lunacy comes from a bloke named Dimitri Khalezov who sent out a mailing yesterday that directs you to his YouTube channel. It is difficult to know how much credence to give to a man who appears to believe Bangkok is in Taiwan, but his pet theory of 9/11 is if anything even sillier than the dustification nonsense promoted by Judy Wood, and let's not forget the no-planers.
Unsurprisingly, there are those in the 9/11 truth movement who believe Khalezov is himself a shill and that his ridiculous theory is being promoted by the usual suspects in order to discredit real researchers. Others - including the man himself - believe they are out to get him.
Who are the usual suspects? In this case the words Jew and Zionism are never far from the feeble minds of the gullibles, obviously something to do with the New World Order, which is likewise behind the current turmoil in the Middle East, although most people might reasonably conclude that as with the rest of Mankind throughout history, neither Arabs nor Moslems need any encouragement to kill each other.
