article imageReview: The Spartan Diner is one of Long Island's finest eateries Special

Farmingdale - One of my favorite restaurants to eat out in Long Island, New York is the Spartan Diner. It is located on 1580 Broad hollow Road, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
It was newly constructed in 1991, to an art-deco design and it is an ultimate paradigm of fine architecture. It is a family-owned business since 1984.
All of its breakfast selections are homemade from scratch, with no artificial colors or flavors added. These delights include Belgian waffles, French toast, pancakes, as well as their exclusive Thumann's sausages, which are a rarity among many New York diners. Its homemade home fries are appealing due to their freshness and tenderness; moreover, home fries and bacon can be cooked crispy or well-done to meet the patron's desires.
For lunch, the Spartan Diner is one of the few diners that offers gourmet chef specials daily. On Mondays, the specials include leg of lamb meanwhile Tuesdays are reserved for chicken cacciatore and chicken pot pies. On Wednesdays, lamb shanks are served Hellenic-style with orzo and stuffed red or green peppers are also available. Thursday chef specials include baked short ribs with oven-brown potatoes, corn-beef and cabbage, and Fridays feature Hungarian Beef Goulash over buttered noodles. On weekends, roast prime rib and pot roast make up the remaining chef specials for the week. These aforementioned chef specials are also served for dinner in slightly larger portions.
As part of its distinct appetizer selection, spinach pies, homemade chicken fingers, baked stuffed clams, and stuffed mushrooms with crab-meat stuffing are its most popular hors d'oeuvres among patrons.

Additionally, other appetizers include fried popcorn shrimp, jumbo shrimp cocktail, marinated herring, pan-fried calamari, fried mozzarella sticks, potato skins and stuffed grape leaves, which are called “dolmadakia” in Greek.
Although quesadillas may be a bit more expensive than appetizers, they are more filling for the hungry patron. A variety of these quesadillas include cheese, chicken, steak, shrimp, turkey, zucchini vegetable, all of which are served with homemade guacamole dip, salsa and sour cream.
All of the meals arrive at the patrons' tables fast and fresh and at every visit there is always something different to try due to its elaborate menu listings.
My three personal favorite dishes include London broil sandwich (best served with home fries), Manhattan melt (which consists of grilled roast beef with mozzarella on a garlic bread) and buffalo burgers which have less fat than beef. The ideal side dish for me is a traditional Greek salad, which consists of tomato, cucumber, onion and lettuce coupled with chunks of feta cheese.

Their offerings are available to stay or to go; for children, it offers a distinct children's menu. Spartan Diner is open seven days a week, all throughout the year, and all major credits cards are accepted.
The Verdict
Overall, a stop at Spartan Diner in New York is a must for any fan of good cooking. It is certainly fit for 300 Spartans. Their waiting staff is friendly and pleasant and their foods are reasonably priced. It is worthy of a visit to Long Island, New York.
