Madrid - Real Madrid have broken their own world record transfer record as they have signed Gareth Bale for 100 million euros from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Welsh winger has signed a six year contract, and will earn £300,000-a-week, according to BBC Sport.
Real Madrid have now broken the world transfer record three time in the last four years, signing Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale for £56 million, £80 million and £85 million respectively.
The Welshman scored 30 goals for club and country last season, which attracted the attention of the Madrid giants.
Los Blancos chased Bale for the whole summer, but the long drawn-out transfer saga was finally brought to an end, as Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed the departure of the winger:
"He’s a wonderful player who is going to join Real Madrid so we wish him all the best. He leaves with us great memories from last season and the fans appreciate that."
“It’s part of change. He has moved on and so have we. We have great belief in ourselves that this can be our season. We just have to move forward.
The deal has been in the pipeline for weeks, but was delayed in order to give Tottenham time to sign replacements.
Tottenham missed out on Willian, who went to Chelsea, but signed Erik Lamela from Roma and Christian Eriksen from Ajax, as part of their £100+ million spending spree.
Villas-Boas, who has signed seven players this transfer window, believes his team has spent well:
“Tottenham have made some great, we have made great re-investments from the money from Gareth Bale. We move forward in our work.”
Bale, seemed desperate to join Madrid is relishing the prospect of turning out for the Spanish side:
"I know many players talk of their desire to join the club of their boyhood dreams, but I can honestly say, this is my dream come true. I am now looking forward to the next exciting chapter in my life, playing football for Real Madrid."
Bale is to be unveiled to the Madrid fans on Monday.
