Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has unexpectedly released a new single ahead of his forthcoming album. The single is called "New."
Sir Paul McCartney’s new album is yet untitled, although it is known that it will be a solo affair and it will be released in October. The album will be McCartney’s first solo release since 2007’s ‘Memory Almost Full.’ The new 12-track album has been produced by Paul Epworth and Mark Ronson. According to the Independent, McCartney plans to tour to support the album.
In relation to the new single, the 71-year-old's latest song is produced by British DJ Mark Ronson, who has previously collaborated with Amy Winehouse and Duran Duran. Interviewed by the BBC, Sir Paul McCartney described the new single as “It's catchy, it's summery, it's a love song. I think people will recognize it as definitely me."
McCartney went on to add that the track will be the first track on the album and that the song is “a love song but it's saying don't look at me I haven't got any answers. It says I don't know what's happening, I don't know how it's all happening, but it's good and I love you."
A critic from the Daily Telegraph described the single as follows: “New is a jaunty, Beatles-esque stomp topped with undulating Beach Boys harmonizing and Sir Paul's familiar, if now slightly croaky, voice.”
An excerpt from the new song can be found on McCartney’s website.
