Mijas - An 80-year-old British man has been arrested in Calahonda, a suburb of Mijas in southern Spain. He had fled the UK after being sentenced for sexually abusing his granddaughter.
The man was convicted in the United Kingdom on March 8 on two counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual activity with a minor.
The abuse allegedly occurred while his granddaughter was between the ages of nine and 16.
The man was arrested at a campsite in Calahonda on August 25. While he gave police a false identity when located, they established his true identity and placed him under arrest.
The suspect, regarded in Britain as a registered sex offender, had left the country on March 12 and was found by agents of the International Relations Operative Group, with the assistance of the Málaga National Police.
He has now been passed on to the competent judicial authority for extradition to the UK.
