While it tends to be very hot and dry in the Spanish countryside at this time of year, there are still some colorful flowers to be found, some complete with insect visitors and others providing food.
Visiting a friend just a few kilometers inland from Fuengirola took the writer to a different world.
While used to the busy seaside environment on the coast, it is sometimes good to get away to the peace and quiet of the countryside.
During July and August, the countryside inland is very hot and dry. But even with the heat, among the dry grasses on the hillsides there are still some wild flowers of various kinds to be seen.

Spain wouldn't be Spain, of course, without the beautiful hibiscus and bougainvillea flowers in bright hues.

Other flowers abound in the garden and various insects can be seen enjoying the pollen.

Even a visit to the vegetable garden provided a bit of color, with this attractive marrow plant on display:

While the heat of midday is exhausting, a late afternoon visit inland can be a very pleasant experience.
