article imageOwner of A-Rod Grocery in New York to change name of his store

New York - A store owner in New York will rename his A-Rod Grocery store because of the controversy involving the Yankee player and his suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs.
The owner of the A-Rod Grocery in New York will rename his store because of New York Yankees’ third baseman/shortstop Alex Rodriguez’s suspension of 211 games, including the remainder of the current season and all of the 2014 season for his use of performance-enhancing drugs. The name change was reported by upi.com Saturday.
Ricardo Rodriguez, who is not related to the third baseman, adopted the name of A-Rod Grocery for his bodega 13 years ago to honor the player, who was at that time with the Seattle Mariners. A-Rod has been a member of the Yankees since the 2004 season. The article reported that while many baseball fans in New York were at one time happy when Rodriguez came to their team, he is now very unpopular in New York City because of the scandal and various physical problems the player has had.
Ricardo Rodriguez said he should not have to listen to all of the people complaining about Alex Rodriguez. He explained that it is “not fair. I don’t even know the guy.”
The store owner has not decided on a new name for his business. It was Pena Grocery before the name change.
It was reported August 6 on msn.fox.com that Alex Rodriguez would be suspended. He is appealing the suspension, but the results of his appeal will not be known until November 2013. He is able to play the rest of the season while the appeal is in process.
A-Rod had been sidelined with a hip injury since January.
He rejoined his team only five hours after the suspension to play for the Yankees against the Chicago White Sox. He played third base and batted fourth. That night he went one for four, including a single.
Alex Rodriguez was one of 13 major league baseball players disciplined for being involved with Biogenesis of America. According to the punishment against the players by baseball officials, the Florida anti-aging clinic gave out banned performance-enhancing drugs.
The biggest names among the other players were All-Stars Jhonny Peralta, Nelson Cruz and Everth Cabrera. All 12 of the other players agreed to the bans. That will allow them to play during baseball’s post season.
Peralta is a shortstop/third baseman for the Detroit Tigers. Nelson Cruz is a right fielder/left fielder for the Texas Rangers. Everth Cabrera is a shortstop for the San Diego Padres.
Alex Rodriguez is a three-time Most Valuable Player. He was considered by many to be the best player of his time. According to baseball-almanac.com, he has a career batting average of .300 and 650 home runs. The Yankees won a World Series in 2009 while A-Rod played for the team.
