New Haven - James Pace, an 81-year-old resident of Connecticut, accidentally shot himself in the leg, in his attempt to shoot a pesky raccoon.
According to the Hartford Courant, James Pace told officers: "He had been having a problem with a large raccoon scratching at his back door."
So Pace took it upon himself to deal with the raccoon.
Whilst lying in wait for the furry creature’s return on Saturday night, he chose an inopportune moment to sneeze; with a .22 calibre rifle in his hand. The sneeze caused him to fall from his chair and shoot himself in the shin.
Having eventually realised he had drawn blood, Pace unloaded the weapon and called for his son who drove his father to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Officers upon hearing Pace’s tale confiscated the gun as part of their investigation of the incident.
This isn't the first instance of someone shooting themselves. One man accidentally shot himself in the leg whilst bowling. Another shot himself in the bottom whilst watching a movie.
