Puerto Lumbreras - The raid in Spain's Murcia region by Civil Guard and local police officers uncovered the largest-ever seizure of marijuana. Around 14,000 plants and over three tonnes of the drug were seized and five men arrested.
A raid resulted in five arrests after agents from the Civil Guard, working in collaboration with local police, uncovered the four huge greenhouses. The suspects comprised two Spaniards and three Moroccans.
According to a statement by Spain's Civil Guard, the facilities were "perfectly camouflaged" to fit in with other greenhouses in the agricultural zone of Puerto Lumbreras in the region of Murcia.
The statement added that the five arrested suspects were "experts" in the cultivation and genetic modification of cannabis, and the production capacity was described as being "enormous".
The greenhouses were smoked out when police were investigating a robbery on the property in the middle of August, carried out by four known criminals. Those four men are also in custody.
