Brooklyn - Pop music superstar Justin Timberlake won the most prestigious award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) that were held on August 25, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, which was for “Video of the Year” for “Mirrors.”
Timberlake was also honored with the coveted prestigious “Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award,” which is an award that has gone to such artists as Britney Spears, Madonna and the late “King of Pop” himself. It was presented by Jimmy Fallon and it paid tribute to Timberlake’s two decade career in the entertainment industry.
Fallon introduced Timberlake and noted that 2002 marked the year that he made his first solo performance on the MTV VMA stage. “His name was Justin Timberlake and the rest as they say is history. Okay Brooklyn, the world is watching. Let’s see how loud you can get. He’s about to blow your mind. Here he is, the ‘President of Pop,’ Justin Timberlake,” Fallon said.
His live performance, which lasted a little over 15 minutes, included his current single “Take Back the Night” from his upcoming CD, as well as “SexyBack,” “Like I Love You,” “My Love,” his Grammy-winning “Cry Me a River,” “Señorita” and “Rock Your Body.”
Towards the end of his lengthy set, it included a brief reunion with his former band members of ’N Sync, where they sang such hits as “Girlfriend” and their signature song “Bye Bye Bye.”
He concluded with “Suit and Tie” and “Mirrors” and he praised the Barclays Center audience for sounding “so beautiful tonight.”
It was by far the best-received of the evening and garnered the most cheers. Even his peers in the industry that were watching in their seats, including Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, One Direction and Rihanna, were left in awe of his talent.
Timberlake was overwhelmed by the love that he showed him at the Barclays Center and he said “thank you” repeatedly at the conclusion of his set. He truly commanded the stage as a solo performer, and his reunion with ’N Sync was the answer to every girl’s prayers. He truly owned the night as both a winner and entertainer.
