By Markos Papadatos     Aug 24, 2013 in Entertainment
New York - On August 23, pop boy band One Direction performed for NBC’s “The Today Show” at New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza as part of the “Toyota Summer Concert Series.”
They were promoting their new music and upcoming movie “One Direction: This is Us,” which is in theaters starting August 30.
According to weatherman Al Roker, he noted that this was one of the biggest crowds that “The Today Show” has ever had.
One Direction is made up of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, as well as Zayn Malik.
Their breakthrough hit “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” was a fan-favorite and a crowd sing-along.
“I wonder if anybody in the crowd knows the lyrics to his next song,” co-host Matt Lauer said. “Performing their latest hit ‘Best Song Ever’ here is One Direction,” fellow co-host Savannah Guthrie added.
“New York City make some noise,” shouted Harry from the group, prior to delivering a noteworthy rendition of “Best Song Ever,” which was well-received by the crowd.
“Who is ready for more music from the hottest band on the planet right now? Taking over the Toyota summer concert stage is One Direction,” Savannah remarked and the boy band sang “Kiss You,” which drove their fans crazy.
The Verdict
Overall, One Direction put on a high-energy live mini-set at Rockefeller Plaza in New York. The vocal group showcased a lot of stage presence and they did a solid job on the songs and they interacted well with the crowd.
The only downside for this show were the deafening screams from their female teenage fans, most of which camped out for days to see them perform live.
