article imageThe latest news from Aubrey de Grey and SENS

By Alexander Baron     Sep 17, 2013 in Health
Recently, Aubrey de Grey and his SENS Foundation held their annual conference number 6 in Cambridge. Aubrey also took some time out for his favourite punting.
Aubrey is also known as an Othello player and organiser, but he doesn't have much time for this nowadays, and has not been seen at the Mind Sports Olympiad for several years.
According to Aubrey late last month, the latest conference was expecting around 250 delegates from over 20 countries.
Last month also, SENS issued a new research report; as might be expected, this is not light reading, but the article about the maximally modifiable mouse shows where things are leading, though it will be some time before we can modify humans in similar fashion.
Recently there were reports of a girl who never ages, with the inevitable suggestion that studying her and people like her may hold the key to immortality.
Aubrey's response to that was that it is "very unlikely to have anything to do with aging...almost certainly purely a development issue, but still quite interesting. Hard to study at present since there are so few cases, but I'm in discussions with Walker (whom I've known for many years) about possibilities."
SENS has not yet released an update relating to the September conference, but some recent videos, including a lengthy interview with Aubrey, can be found on YouTube.
