Semi-naked German man has four-hour party on Angela Merkel's jet

By Michael Thomas     Aug 23, 2013 in Odd News
Cologne - German authorities are investigating how a man was able to spend four hours on July 25 partying in his underwear on German Chancellor Angela Merkel's private jet.
The 24-year-old man entered the Airbus A319 at the Cologne-Bonn airport and apparently danced in his underwear on the wing before getting into the plane via the emergency exit, according to BBC News. During his stint he randomly pressed buttons which eventually triggered an alarm, deployed an emergency slide and sprayed a fire extinguisher on the plush interior, resulting in 100,000 euros ($134,000) worth of damage.
The plane was full of fuel and apparently could have flown as far as Beijing had the man known how to fly it. Merkel herself was in Bavaria enjoying a performance of "The Flying Dutchman" at the Bayreuth Festival.
Police tried but failed to persuade the man to get down by using a megaphone. The man finally surrendered when a police dog bit his leg.
The police apparently found in a bag he brought with him his identity documents, and allegedly marijuana and ecstasy.
The man, a German body-builder of Turkish descent and identified only as Volkan T, was sent to a psychiatric institution.
German newspaper Welt am Sonntag claimed to have seen the leaked police report which showed admitted "security errors."
"The man probably got onto the airfield because there was construction and that's why the alarm system was turned off," said an air force official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as per department policy. "He then pulled down the jet engine's cover, climbed up and entered the plane through its emergency exit."
The air force spokesman also said they have placed an additional guard on duty to protect the pair of Airbus A319s, used to transport high-ranking German officials.
