article imageNHL News and Rumors: Canadiens looking to add Damien Brunner?

By Larry Seely     Aug 21, 2013 in Sports
Montreal - Montreal was one of the better NHL teams in the league last season, finishing second overall in the Eastern Conference, but the Canadiens could use more depth and offensive talent to compete with the likes of Chicago and Boston.
With just under $4 million available under the salary cap, the front office has limited options, but recent reports have the team looking at Damien Brunner. The 27 year-old played well last year in his rookie season with Detroit, scoring 26 points in 44 games.
Brunner has the versatility to play center and the wing, making him a valuable asset for any team willing to sign the youngster.
No team has yet to sign the Swiss player as he has asked for a big pay raise over last year, but with the NHL training camps getting closer to opening, he and his agent will need to lower their demands if Brunner wants to play in the league this season.
If and when he decides to accept a contract, Montreal would be wise to add the former Red Wings center as they look to add more talent and find some offensive help to overtake the Bruins and possibly challenge the Blackhawks as the best team in hockey.
