Review: Lady Gaga releases creative music video for 'Applause' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 20, 2013 in Entertainment
On August 19, pop star Lady Gaga posted the official music video for her latest single “Applause” on her official YouTube channel, after she premiered it earlier in the day on “Good Morning America.”
Dutch fashion photographers Inez and Vinoodh served as its directors. Within one day, the video has received well over 8.3 million views.
While the music video may be eccentric and daring, it is extremely creative and artistic. In its black and white scenes, the viewers can easily recall Madonna’s “Vogue,” as well as her very own “Alejandro.” Some of the scenes seem to have also been inspired by such motion pictures as “The Dark Knight” and “Black Swan.”
Mother Monster” undergoes many outfit changes throughout the video and she uses her white bed sheets as props.
The Verdict
Lady Gaga’s music video for “Applause” does deserve its round of applause. It garners 3.5 out of 5 stars. If her forthcoming MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) live performance of the song this weekend is anywhere near as bold as the video, it will be an interesting night for sure.
Overall, it is an interesting and unique concept yet I still prefer “Bad Romance,” “Telephone” and “Poker Face” as my three all-time favorite Lady Gaga videos.
