article imageNew iPhone app may help Prince George sleep like a king

By Michael Essany     Aug 20, 2013 in Technology
In a worldwide exclusive this week for CNN, Prince William sat down for his first interview since the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their first born son on July 22nd.
While he may be destined to occupy the throne one day, for now, Prince George of Cambridge is a sleepless little "rascal."
"He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I'm not sure, but he's doing very well at the moment," Prince William admitted. "He's growing quite quickly actually. But he's a little fighter — he wriggles around quite a lot and he doesn't want to go to sleep that much."
Although Prince George has no shortage of loving family members (not to mention an army of servants) tending to his every sleepless whimper, the future King's kin at Kensington Palace may want to look into a new mobile application that can make even the most restless of royal newborns sleep like a king.
Just as Prince George was preparing to enter the world last month, a groundbreaking mobile app designed specifically for babies entered Apple's App Store. From the team behind Sleep Genius - a neuroscience-based sleep app available free for a limited time on iOS - Sleep Genius Baby was launched following clinical tests and ample usage in hospital nurseries and NICUs across the U.S.
Created by leading experts in neurodevelopment, child development, sound, and music therapy, the app leverages decades of neurological research on the impact of music and sound in the development and sleep patterns of babies.
Dr. David Perlmutter, author of “The Better Brain Book,” says Sleep Genius Baby “is an essential ingredient for improving a baby’s sleep and promoting the health and development of their language, learning and music ability.”
So how does it work?
“The calming effects of the Sleep Genius music program can help your baby sleep faster and sleep deeper which will make for a healthier and happier baby,” the app’s description reads.
Available for Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, Sleep Genius Baby offers two particularly valuable features:
BED TIME: Play either the continuous program all night or choose the timed options to help your baby get the optimal night’s sleep.
NAP TIME: Help your baby to settle down quickly and experience soothing and rejuvenating naps.
According to details made public upon the app’s formal launch in the App Store, the music in Sleep Genius Baby has received national and international awards and endorsements from authorities on child development and children’s media.
“Sleep Genius has succeeded in making a universal parental wish come true – a wish for one’s child to develop an inner sense of calm, as well as relaxed alertness, in guiding the child’s magical years,” explains Clinical and Research Pediatric Neuropsychologist V.L. Scaramella-Nowinski, Psy.D. “These melodies are delightful and joyous to listen to (I think for all ages) and empower the child at such an early age with the inner ability to further develop in mind, body and soul…What a marvelous treasure!”
Sleep Genius Baby
is available now in the Apple App Store for $4.99.
