Rising country singer-songwriter Kasey Lansdale is releasing her debut album “Restless” on August 20, 2013 independently, which was produced by Grammy-award-winning producer John Carter Cash, the son of country legends Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash
According to Kasey, she remarked, “I am excited for the ‘Restless’ CD since it has been a long time coming. I have worked with some really great producers and John Carter Cash helped me get it wrapped up. I am excited and I hope people like it since it represents who I am as an artist right now.”
She added, “There is no cooler or calmer person to work with than John Carter Cash. He is really the nicest guy ever and it was such a fun experience and I was fortunate enough to have it.”
A native of Nacogdoches, Texas, she was born with music in her blood. Her parents introduced her to everything from rock, classical music to Motown and country music.
Kasey penned seven of the tracks of her forthcoming CD and it was subsequently produced in the historic Cash Cabin Studio and it features 11 tracks. Her vocals are reminiscent of such female country vocalists as Reba McEntire and Sara Evans. “I am a big fan of both of them,” she said. “I really love what Reba did during the 1990s. When you hear her on the radio you know it’s her since her vocal style is really unique.”
Although she loves all of the songs on this project, Kasey noted that she is drawn to “Blame You For Trying” due to its classic country sound. “Those are the types of songs that I grew up on, so that’s my wheelhouse,” she said.
She also had her first short story published by Random House at the age of eight; moreover, she went on to edit her first anthology, “Impossible Monsters,” which will be released this summer and she just completed her first novel. “I have been doing writing for a long time,” she said with a sweet laugh.
In addition, Mulholland Publishing released a novel that includes her original song “Edge of Dark Water” as a digital download. “It is based on the book with the same name. It starts out with the female main character being dead, and I wrote the song as if the girl was still alive and from the way she would be approaching life,” she said.
Kasey’s music will be featured in the new film, “Cold in July,” starring award-winning actor, Michael C. Hall from “Dexter” and in “Christmas with the Dead,” where she also made her first big screen debut. “I have seen some of the stills and I have met some of the people and they are super-nice and it’s a great set. I am exciting for when the filming starts,” she said.
The Texas-born songstress has been performing at large events such as the Piacenza Blues Festival in Italy, which she has been a part for the last eight years. “It turned out to be such a great time and they have invited me back each year. You meet so many faces from all over the world and it’s been a lot of fun,” she said.
Kasey listed Garth Brooks as her dream duet choice in music and she subsequently praised him for his “golden voice.” “Garth is the guy that really changed country more than anybody else before he came around,” she said.
