article imageAmerican Al-Qaeda member calls for attack on U.S. interests

By Sami Zaatari     Aug 18, 2013 in World
Adam Gadahn, an American Al-Qaeda militant has called for attacks against U.S. diplomats in the Arab world in a video recording that was posted on several militant websites.
Gadahn said that such attacks would "have a great effect in instilling fear in the hearts of our cowardly enemies".
The latest video and call by Al-Qaeda to attack U.S. interests in the Middle East comes as the U.S. government shut down several embassies and consulates in the region amid an imminent Al-Qaeda threat.
Last year, American ambassador Chris Stevens was killed alongside three other Americans when the U.S. consulate was attacked by militants in the Libyan city of Benghazi. The investigation into the attack has so far found some elements of Al-Qaeda affiliates, such as Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), to have been involved in the consulate attack.
It's not known at this time if Gadahn's calls for attacks on U.S interests in the Middle East is linked to the recent imminent threat assessment U.S. officials have warned about.
