It is his third single from his eighth studio album “Based on a True Story,” which featured such chart-topping singles as “Sure Be Cool If You Did” and the up-tempo “Boys ‘Round Here.”
The song was co-written by Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington and Deric Ruttan. It is extremely well-written and vocally, it is a gorgeous love ballad that showcases the country crooner’s soft side. Along with “God Gave Me You” and “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking,” it ranks as one of my top three all-time favorite recordings by Blake Shelton.
Thus far, the new single is doing extremely well with the fans, as well as with country radio. After four weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts, “Mine Would Be You” sits at No. 21, for the week ending August 24, 2013, with the potential to reach No. 1 within a matter of time.
The Verdict
Overall, Blake Shelton does an excellent job on “Mine Would Be You.” He tends to work wonders with ballads and that certainly holds true with this single. Although he did not write the song, he sings it with such emotion and passion that the listeners would be convinced that he wrote it himself.
It is such a warm and tender vocal performance and I would not be surprised if it will be nominated for a Grammy award for “Best Country Solo Performance.” That would be really deserving, especially since this single garners an A rating.
