Sherbrooke - As the first week of Canada Games 2013 bids adieu and the second week commences the national zeitgeist are amazed by outstanding athletic achievements, record breaking performances,impressive sportsmanship and the debuts of many stellar new Olympians.
At the mid point of this year's Canada Games, a bi- annual competition which alternate between summer and winter events and which present the highest national level of athletic talents and abilities for upwardly mobile youth since 1967 , Team Ontario are currently leading in awarded medals and total Flag Points. with 104 total medals and 114 Flag Points.
Amateur sports fans viewed featured competitions in many varied disciplines and varieties of team and individual sports taking place in the quaint and pleasantly scenic eastern townships.
Volleyball,tennis, swimming,softball,sailing, soccer,,cycling,,basketball,, and that perennial past time of all boys of summer,baseball..
Here are the top 5 medal standings as we go to press: Ontario, Team Alberta with 68 total medals, the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec are currently tied at 62 medals each, and Saskatchewan has a total of 22 medals.
Also showing strong and possible upward mobility in medal standings are the provinces of Manitoba, with 17 medals, Nova Scotia with 13 , New Brunswick with 4, PEI with 2 medals and Newfoundland and Labrador with 1 medal.
For Flag Points the current leaders are Team Ontario followed by; British Columbia,Quebec, Alberta , and Manitoba.
Again making a strong presence in the Flag Points challenge are the provinces of Nova Scotia with 58 points followed in descending order by Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI and the territories of Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Meaghan Earle achieved a personal best for the Newfoundland and Labrador Women's soccer team by scoring 4 goals which is the most goals scored by a single player in one game.
Chloe Brennan and Sope Akindoju of Team Nova Scotia also achieved placing 4 goals in one game.
In the Mountain Biking competetion Leandre Bouchard from Quebec has received two Gold Medals for his Cross Country and Sprint races.
