article imageInterview with country singer M Callahan Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 12, 2013 in Entertainment
Nashville - On August 11, I chatted via telephone with up-and-coming country music artist Mike Callahan, who is better known by his stage name “M Callahan.”
His music spans three genres of music including country, pop and Americana. An Arkansas native, the singer-songwriter recently released his latest self-titled studio album, which features 10 tracks.
According to M Callahan, he remarked, “I co-wrote the entire album with my co-producer Michael Hunter Ochs. We sat down in the studio in Music Row and he worked with me on the songs. We spent 1.5 years working on the material and on my voice. We developed the vocal sounds and the storylines that we wanted to present. We placed 10 songs on there and they are all directly from my life. These songs deal with me growing up in Arkansas and what I went through.”
He noted that they released two singles to radio which include “God’s Green Earth” and “Baptized By Your Love.” “We went ahead and put both tunes on iTunes to feel everything out and we have gotten a great response for both, especially ‘Baptized By Your Love,’” he said.
When M Callahan first moved in the Nashville area, he was spotted by a casting agent who inspired him to audition for a role in a musical. He subsequently landed the leading role in “One Kiss Cafe,” which made its debut at the iconic Country Music Hall of Fame.
On his plans for the future, he shared, “I would like to push this record as hard as possible and to spread the music to the fans. We are going to do a radio tour soon. I am concentrating on doing some touring in such places as Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Tennessee. I would also like to co-write with other writers around town.”
M Callahan added, “My goal is to help change people’s lives with my music. It’s not about the money and the fame. It’s really the message that we are trying to deliver with the songs. I want to touch people’s lives and I want other people to get that too. It’s my responsibility as an artist to do that.”
He concluded our interview by listing 27-time Grammy-winning songstress Alison Krauss as his dream female duet choice in music. “I would just be worried trying to keep up with her. Alison is so amazing,” he said.
