article imageNFL Scores: Buffalo impressive in 44-20 victory over Colts

By Larry Seely     Aug 11, 2013 in Sports
Indianapolis - Buffalo surprised their fans and the NFL when they made quarterback EJ Manuel their top pick in April's draft, but he wasn't the only impressive rookie quarterback for the Bills in Sunday's win over the Colts.
Manuel did well running the offense, especially for the first preseason game of the year as the young signal caller completed 16-21 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown, but he did botch a hand off with C J Spiller and failed to use the vertical passing game.
The same can't be said of undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel as the former Washington State Cougars star completed 19-23 throws for 212 yards and two scores, helping Buffalo win their first game for new head coach Doug Marrone.
Two other rookies looked good for the Bills — Wide receiver Robert Woods made four receptions and Marquise Goodwin had two long kick off returns, including a 107 yards return for a touchdown.
Indianapolis looked good early, with quarterback Andrew Luck completing 4-6 passes for 51 yards in his brief appearance. The Colts scored 10 points in the first quarter, but the offense sputtered in the second half and three turnovers on the day didn't help their cause.
