article imageReview: Train's Pat Monahan and Ashley Monroe shine on 'Bruises' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 10, 2013 in Entertainment
In summer of 2013, Warner Music Nashville recording country artist Ashley Monroe is touring with Grammy-winning rock band Train as part of their “Mermaids of Alcatraz Tour.”
While, they are out on tour together, Ashley is afforded the chance to sing with Train front-man Pat Monahan each night on a duet song called “Bruises.”
It was co-written by Pat Monaham and Norwegian songwriting team Espionage, which features Espen Lind and Amund Bjorklund. It is a quintessential Train tune yet Ashley showcases her honey-rich vocals and she just elevates the song to a higher level (similar to how she did when she collaborated on Hunter Hayes’ “What You Gonna Do”).
The song has fared well with music fans and critics, and it can be heard often on the radio airwaves of New York City.
The Verdict
Overall, Pat Monahan and Ashley Monroe do a stellar job on “Bruises.” It garners an A rating. Anything Ashley touches seems to turn to gold lately and that holds true with “Bruises.” The song’s music video, which features both musicians, is well done and it tells a story as well.
Fans and listeners ought to go out and see both performers live in concert since this duet is certain to be a highlight. It is one of Pat Monahan’s greatest duets in his career and it ranks equal in excellence to “Marry Me,” where he collaborated with Martina McBride on her “Eleven” studio album.
