article imageNFL Scores: Seahawks defense dominates in win over Chargers

By Larry Seely     Aug 9, 2013 in Sports
San Diego - It might have been the first preseason game of the 2013 NFL season, but Seattle looked the part of a team trying to become a Super Bowl contender as they defeated the San Diego Chargers 31-10.
The Seahawks defense had four sacks and forced two turnovers on the night as they allowed just 234 yards to the Chargers offense.
Backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson made a good impression with his new team as he completed 8-9 throws for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Starter Russell Wilson played very little Thursday night and showed some rust as he completed just two passes for 23 yards.
Second round draft pick, running back Christine Michael of Texas A&M, looked terrific as the rookie rushed for 89 yards on just 16 carries.
It wasn't all bad news for San Diego. Rookie quarterback Brad Sorensen looked very comfortable in his role as he went 7-10 for 84 yards and a score, possibly earning himself more playing time in the preseason and earning the backup job behind starter Phillip Rivers.
Several NFL experts have Seattle as the favorites to knock off the 49ers as the best team in the NFC and with continued performances like this one, it will be hard to argue, at least until the two teams play each other this year.
