article imageNFL Scores: Broncos top 49ers 10-6

By Larry Seely     Aug 9, 2013 in Sports
San Francisco - Thursday nights NFL preseason action between Denver and San Francisco had two teams expected to make a run at a Super Bowl this season, but in typical first-game fashion, mistakes highlighted the contest.
The Broncos won the game 10-6, but both teams struggled to move the ball. Quarterback Peyton Manning completed just 2-4 passes for 13 yards in very limited action, but the Broncos did have a star for the opener as undrafted running back C.J. Anderson gained 69 yards on 15 carries.
49ers young signal caller Colin Kaepernick led San Francisco to a field goal with their opening drive and finished the night completing all four of his passes for 38 yards.
The lone touchdown came on a fumble by 49ers running back D.J. Harper as Denver's defensive lineman Shaun Phillips scooped up the loose ball and ran it in from nine yards out.
Both teams had well under 300 yards in offense, but the Broncos defense did force four turnovers, one of course leading to the game-winning touchdown, but with about one month to the NFL season opener, these teams still have plenty of work ahead if they want to win a championship.
