article imageUK illusionist Derren Brown shocked at woman's 'joke' during show

By Anne Sewell     Aug 5, 2013 in World
London - British illusionist Derren Brown was "terrified" as he watched a man plunge over a theater balcony during his live show. The man survived the experience.
Reportedly the man was sitting in the highest tier, 45ft up, at the Palace Theater in London's West End on Saturday, when his wife decided to push him, as a joke.
Brown, 42, has spoken of the "terrifying" moment a man plunged over a theater balcony at one of his live shows as he took to Twitter.
Brown tweeted how the guest fell over the balcony and was left hanging from the upper circle.
He tweeted: "Tonight a woman pushed her hubby as a joke from the front of the balcony. He fell and caught the upper circle on the way down, and was hanging from it. He's fine, but what a finale. Sending best thoughts to him & wife, terrifying."

According to Rob Millwood, who attended the show, "He hit the lights and grabbed the bar with one arm. Three or four guys ran down the steps and pulled him back."
"A few inches to one side and there would have been nothing to break the fall."
The Sun reported that the man fell 15ft before managing to grab hold of the lighting rig.
Apparently many guests may have thought that the fall was part of the show. Brown is famous for using psychological manipulation to convince people to take part in stunts such as committing "murder", an armed robbery or playing Russian Roulette. He recently convinced several people that they were experiencing the Apocalypse.
Apparently the Palace Theater warns guests not to sit in the highest tier if scared of heights or having limited mobility.
