Tiger Woods found his way into the record books Sunday with his victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Woods, who won by 7 strokes, tied legends Sam Snead and himself with 8 wins at one event.
He shot an even par 70 Sunday for a 265 total after rounds of 66, 61 and 68. Keegan Bradley and Henrik Stenson finished tied for second at 272. It was his fifth PGA tour event win of the 2013 golfing season.
Tiger Woods: all-time Bridgestone champ
The win leaves him having taken the trophy at the Bridgestone in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2013. Snead won 8 times at the Greater Greensboro Open, the last time in 1965, while Woods himself won 8 times at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the last time this season.
The 37-year-old has also won two tournaments 7 times, the Farmers Insurance Open and WGC-Cadillac Championship. Other than Snead's 8 at the Greater Greensboro, no golfer has won more than 6 times at one tournament. Six wins have been achieved by Harry Vardon at the British Open, Sam Snead at the Miami Open and Jack Nicklaus at the Masters.
it was Tiger's 5th win of the season leaving him with 79 tour wins all-time, needing 3 more to tie Snead's record of 82. Jack Nicklaus has the record for most majors at 18 and Woods, who hasn't won a major since 2008, is second with 14.
Next week he has his final chance of 2013 to add to his total of major wins at the PGA Championship at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.. He's won the PGA Championship 4 times, the last time coming in 2007.
