Los Angeles - The latest news from Los Angeles Lakers include World Peace moving East and Pau Gasol visiting the Middle East as part of his UNICEF duties.
The Hills are not the only source for soap opera material in Los Angeles. There is a lot of ink running from the Staples Center this summer. Following Howard's drama that ended up with the 6'11'' pivot wearing the Houston Rockets jersey, it now comes the time for some other Lakers to find a new home.
And it is none other than the power forward previously known as Ron Artest, Metta World Peace himself who will be going from coast to coast. The 2004 NBA Defensive Player of the Year told reporters during Las Vegas Summer League that he has signed with the New York Knicks. The move grants him a two-year deal with the Madison Square Garden squad and some sources say that the salary will be paid between the Knicks and the Lakers in a moved allowed by the amnesty provision on Thursday to cut cost for Lakers next season.
World Peace will join Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and J R Smith in the Big Apple. The Knicks won the Atlantic Division last season and reached the second round of playoffs.
In other news from the City of Angels, fan favorite Pau Gasol has just returned to his hometown in Barcelona following a trip as UNICEF Ambassador around Syria and Iraq. The humanitarian response to the Syrian conflict has been unprecedented. Gasol's trip included him visiting a clean drinkin water provision plant, some primary education center where he talked to the local kids and the review of health care and child protection services.
To day, Gasol has visited five countries as an Ambassador for UNICEF including Angola, South Africa and Ethiopia. Pau is expected to return to LA following a holiday period in Spain to start preparing next season alongside recovering team member Kobe Bryant and the rest of the gold and purple assembly.
